If yes, then this article is definitely for you. In this article we want to tell you more about taking one of the personal trainer courses to achieve your dream job.
So there are two main ways of becoming a personal trainer, it all depends on your age. If you’re a teen over the age of 16 then you can get an apprenticeship to help you get into this field of work. However, if you’re older than about 20, as most apprenticeships want 16-18 year old’s, the best way is to get qualifications in areas such as gym instructing. Then become a fitness instructor to gain experience before becoming a personal trainer. For either of these you need to be keen about health and fitness, also you need to have good people skills.
As a trainer you would need to talk to clients about things such as their health history. Then set goals for them which you would help motivate them to follow safely, you will also need to give them advice on health, nutrition and lifestyle. You’ll have to check and record their progress using methods such as measuring their heart rate.
Your hours all depend on when your client are available, which will most likely be evenings and weekends. There is no set wage for personal trainers although they can earn anywhere between £20 and £100 an hour depending on if they are self employed or work for a gym.
To become a personal trainer you will need public liability and a first aid award. This needs to include a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation award.
These package are provided through colleges and private training providers, like FLM Training. However, if none of these fit your needs, you can contact them and they will when make you your own personalised package. The basic package includes a level 2 gym instructing and a level 3 personal training apprenticeship. Whereas in the Premium+ PT and massage package you will get level 2 gym instructing, level 3 personal training and level 3 exercise referral qualifications, as well as 3xCPD qualifications, a day of first aid and sports massage training. The basic package costs £1600 and the premium+ Pt and massage packages costs £3300.
Although you can just do single courses, this means you can get all your qualifications at once so it’s cheaper than getting one then having to pay for another and another, this will be a cheaper overall price. These packages will give you more qualification which means more chance of getting experience faster, as you already have plenty of knowledge.
